Photo and description

The Kalarashovsky Holy Dormition convent is located on the territory of the Kalarashovka protected area, on the banks of the Dniester. The monastery complex includes two churches, residential cells, the house of the bishop. There are also three springs, the water from which has healing properties. On three sides, the holy monastery is surrounded by rocks and wild forests. On one of the rocks you can see a stone cave, near which a cross is installed. It was here that the first monk settled 500 years ago, and the cave itself served as the basis of the monastery.

Initially, a wooden church was erected on this site, which in 1780 was rebuilt into a stone church of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God.
Almost seventy years later, namely, in 1853, On the territory of the monastery, at the expense of Princess Cantakuzina, another stone church was built, which was consecrated on the day of St. Mitrofan of Voronezh.

Until 1916 the Kalarashov Monastery was purely for men, but during the war a large number of Russian nuns from Polish cities arrived here. The number of sisters constantly increased, in connection with this, the monastery was transformed into a female one and expanded.

In 1961, hard times came for the monastery and its inhabitants. The temples were closed, the icons were confiscated and the iconostasis was destroyed, and the premises were handed over for the needs of the tuberculosis dispensary, later - schools for mentally retarded children. And only in 1991, thanks to the petition of Metropolitan Vladimir, the church was returned to the believers, and work began on its restoration.

Currently, the restoration of the Cathedral of St. Mitrofan, as well as the Holy Protection Church, which was built in the old Moldavian style. Work is underway to build new living quarters for nuns, a refectory, a pool with healing water from the spring.
