The executive power in such churches belongs to the Synodal Council, which consists of 10 members. Its history begins in the 19th century, when in 1858 it was decided to build it. The building was completed in six years, and by 1864 the construction was completed. At that time, it was the first Catholic church in Bern since the official declaration of the canton of Bern as Protestant. The church is located in close proximity to the local town hall. Before the construction of this church, an international competition was held, which took place in France. This is a special competition among architects - the winner of the competition received the right to design a new building. It was Pierre Joseph Eduard Depert, a well-known architect, famous thanks to the building of the Paris City Hall designed by him - the Hotel de Ville. The building was made in an unusual style, combining elements of Romanesque and Gothic. The first service in the church dates back to November 13, 1864. In 1998 the choir was reconstructed and some Art Nouveau elements and murals were added. The belfry of the church has three bells. In 1885, the organ was installed by Friedrich Hollem from Lucerne. In the middle of the 20th century, the instrument was restored and moved, but literally in 2011, the restoration was repeated, and the instrument was returned to its original place. Today the temple remains a functioning parish church.
