Theatre des Posches ("Pocket") is the smallest theater in Paris. It is located near the Boulevard Montparnasse, in the narrow cul-de-sac of Robiquet. The fact that the theater is located here can only be guessed by the inscription on the blue visor above the entrance - earlier there was an ordinary cafe here. A tiny hall for sixty seats appeared here in 1942, today it is quite successful, and its history is impressive.

1942 is the height of the Nazi occupation, but the theatrical life of Paris, although weakened, is not interrupted. The Theatre de Ville is staging Sartre's "The Fly" - a not too veiled pamphlet against the fascist dictatorship. The National Opera presents a one-act ballet based on La Fontaine's fables, featuring French music - a bold step for those days. Parisian theater actors participated in the Resistance movement. It was at this time that the Teatro de Posch was born.

The creation of such a chamber scene was unusual: until now, Paris has been a city of huge halls. But the theater made a serious claim by taking on Strindberg's plays. And then an actor came here who forever inscribed the Theatre de Posch in the history of culture - Marcel Marceau.

He was born in 1923, at the age of sixteen he joined the Resistance movement - after his father was burned in the crematorium of a concentration camp ... He was a liaison, hiding from the Gestapo. After the war he studied, mastered pantomime. I came up with a mask for myself: a whitewashed face, a bright scarlet mouth, tears under huge eyes. It was in this mask that mime Bip appeared before the audience of the Teatro de Posch in 1947. Sad, shrill Bip stepped from the stage of a tiny theater into the world - and conquered it.

In 1968, the French actress of Russian origin Tanya Balashova staged "Lady Macbeth" based on the works of Chekhov. In the sixties, a young actor came to the theater, with whom Tanya Balashova will play in 1972 in the famous film "Tall blond in a black boot" - it was Pierre Richard.

Over the past decades, the small theater has staged Ionesco and Charles de Coster, Brecht and Kafka, authors of the great and unknown. In the seething theatrical world of Paris, the theater does not lose its face, it is always full.
