Ardagger is located in the Danube Valley in the Mostvertele vineyard region. Ardagger is often called the gateway to Strudengau, a picturesque stretch of the Danube with high rocky shores. This commune consists of four districts: Ardagger Markt, Arddager Stift, Kollmitzberg and Stephanshart.

The main attraction of Ardager is the abbey of the same name, founded in 1049. In 1784 it was closed by order of Emperor Joseph II. The old monastery buildings and the adjacent buildings of the 17th century were converted into a castle in 1813. When you visit it, you can see the building of the Basilica of St. Margaret, in the design of which there are elements characteristic of the Gothic, Baroque, Classicism eras. A must see is the Margaret's window, created in the years 1230-1240, which is considered the oldest stained glass window in Austria.

The Ardagger Markt area, where in the old days there was a ferry across the Danube, is famous for its ancient church of St. Nicholas, which is built on a hill 275 meters above sea level and dominates the village. A Romanesque church surrounded by a cemetery was first mentioned in 1049. It was subsequently expanded with a Gothic extension. The massive southern tower appeared in the Middle Ages. The church altar with four columns dates from the middle of the 18th century.

Two interesting museums can be found near the town of Ardagger. One of them is dedicated to the history of the local peasantry, and the second - the Wehrmacht Museum - tells about the weapons and the organization of life in the German troops in the first half of the XX century.
