St. Leonard is a village in the federal state of Tyrol, belongs to the district of Imst. St. Leonard is located in a narrow valley, with villages and hamlets stretching for 25 km. The highest point is 3774 meters above sea level. Due to the altitude, the length from north to south, and also due to the steep mountain slopes, the climate in St. Leonard is rather harsh. The area was founded around 1300 and its main source of income is tourism.

St. Leonard is the central village in the municipality. The village has a parish church, built in 1891.

Not far away is the large Rifflesee lake, where a hiking trail is laid in winter and a tourist recreation area in summer.

The Pitztal glacier also attracts many tourists from all over Europe every year. In December 1983, funiculars began to operate, lifting from a height of 1720 meters to a height of 2840 meters. The maximum ascent speed is 43 km / h, the average travel time is 8 minutes. The tunnel, in which the funiculars operate, meets all modern safety standards: there is lighting, smoke detectors, fire alarms, video surveillance. The lifts operate from mid-September to early June each year.

The development of tourism on the Pitztal Glacier is constantly criticized by environmentalists, but it provides jobs for many residents of St. Leonard.
