Photo & DescriptionThe most popular hiking and trekking area in Grenada is undoubtedly the rainforest around the Grand Ethan Nature Reserve, high in the mountains of the central part of the island. The varied panoramas and landscapes of Grand Ethan contain several different ecological subsystems that culminate in moss and elfin trees up the mountain slopes of the reserve. The flora of the Grand Ethan Reserve includes towering mahogany trunks, many ferns, tropical flowers and other plants. Lush vegetation provides shelter for many animals and many species of island birds. The broad-winged hawk, Lesser Antilles Swift, Antillean crested hummingbird (known as the doctor bird), Lesser Antilles tanager and other rare representatives of birds live here. Must-see Great Lake Ethan - a body of water formed in the crater of an extinct volcano. The height of the Grand Ethan is 550 m above the waterline, its depth is approximately 6.10 m, the area is 350 sq.m. This large pond is inhabited by a large number of frogs and lizards, the inhabitants of its shores are possums, armadillos, mongooses, the monkey Mona. Hikes in the Ethan Forest Reserve range from an easy 15-minute walk to a massive expedition lasting several hours. The trails are not bad, the reserve provides excellent guides. You can take a map with a detailed textual description of the area and go along the route yourself. The path lies along the azure color of the lake, along the path past waterfalls, through the jungle. You can stop for fishing near the many streams.
