Photo and description

The Church of the Resurrection of Christ is located in the village of Toroshkovichi, Luga District, Leningrad Region. The first mention of the Resurrection Church in Toroshkovichi dates back to 1582, when the church was wooden. The next church, also wooden, was built by peasants in 1690 on the same site. It was renovated in 1846, but 6 years later, on May 7, 1852, it died in a fire together with the village.

The last wooden church was built in 1855 on the site of a previously burnt down church. It was consecrated in the middle of the spring of 1856. The architect was Alexander Savvin. He also made a construction estimate. The construction of the church was watched by: the architect, priest Vasily Vashnevsky, the church head Kozma Prokofiev. The construction of the temple was carried out with donations from peasants.

The Resurrection Church was cruciform, had entrances from three sides. On December 15, 1874, the antimension was consecrated by Metropolitan Isidore. The length of the temple was 7 fathoms and 4 feet, width - 5 fathoms and 6 feet, the height of the temple was 8 fathoms 2 feet - until the end of the middle cross.

The modern stone church was erected at the beginning of the 20th century, or rather, in 1906, one of the most famous architects of St. Petersburg at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries - Nikolai Nikitich Nikonov. The brick four-pillar church, created in the Russian style, with a bell tower and one wooden dome, was consecrated in October 1906.

During the Soviet period, the church was closed forcibly more than once, but at the request of believers it was reopened. It was closed for the first time in March 1930. The parishioners filed complaints with the All-Russian Central Executive Committee and in April the church was opened. The temple was closed for the second time on November 19, 1939, and a club was set up in the building. However, in 1942 it was reopened.

Since the fall of 1960, the authorities tried to prevent the appointment of a priest in the town of Toroshkovichi, so there were no divine services here. The church was closed again in 1963, in April 1964 vestments, icons and temple utensils were taken out and burned. The building was disfigured: a wooden drum with a dome and a bell tower were demolished.

The Church of the Resurrection of Christ was returned to believers in 1995. After some restoration and furnishing of the roof, services began in 2004. Currently, the temple is active, restoration work is still ongoing.
