Photo and description

The Museum of Islamic Art is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, not far from the National Mosque. Quite new (opened in 1998), he managed to gain a reputation as one of the most interesting and significant museums in the capital. In addition, the museum is considered one of the most extensive collections dedicated to the art of the Muslim world. The collection contains about eight thousand unique exhibits from all countries professing Islam.

The style in which the museum building is built is a combination of several, which is very characteristic of the architecture of Kuala Lumpur. By itself, the eclectic Art Deco style is harmoniously inscribed in medieval Islamic architecture with the addition of elements of constructivism. The building turned out to be magnificent - with five domes decorated with Iranian tiles, thanks to which the museum looks like a mosque from afar. The entrance is decorated with the same glazed tiles. Many people come just to admire this stylish structure. At the same time, the inside of the museum looks very modern: excellent lighting thanks to glass walls, light colors with a predominance of white, a lot of glass for exhibitions. The domes look even more beautiful from the inside, their sky-blue finish was made by masters from Uzbekistan.

The huge exhibition space of the museum, more than 30 thousand square meters. meters divided by thematic and geographical principles. Therefore, it is easy to inspect it. The four floors are divided into twelve galleries. Some are dedicated to India, the Malay world and China. The whole exposition presents the most ancient manuscripts of the Koran, among them the most beautiful Persian ones stand out. A separate gallery is occupied by numismatics and seals. In the architectural section you can see large-scale models of famous mosques in the world. The hall of jewelry is dominated by Indian jewelry from the times of the Great Mughals; the collection of miniature jewelry is interesting. In one of the halls there is a model of the "Ottoman Room" - modeled on the rich Syrian houses of the early 19th century. In general, household items look very attractive not only due to luxury, but as products of skilled craftsmen. Separate galleries present ceramics of all times, clothes and fabrics, weapons.

The museum has educational programs for children - drawing, calligraphy, ceramics, etc. There is a library for children with a large fund of books on Islamic art, world literary masterpieces. Free educational games - museum safaris - are also organized for children.
