Evpatoria Museum of Local Lore description and photos - Crimea: Evpatoria. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe local history museum of Evpatoria was created on February 1, 1921, when the former mansion of the merchant Y. Gelelovich was allocated for the Museum of Antiquity - a beautiful building in the Moorish style, built in 1914 In less than three months, the museum workers collected about 2 thousand exhibits - ceramics and porcelain, old carpets and coins. The opening of the Museum of Antiquity took place on July 30, 1921. Four years later, there were already 5 full-fledged departments in it: archaeological, resort, industrial, atheistic and ethnographic. Unfortunately, during the Great Patriotic War, most of the museum's exhibits were lost ... After the liberation of the city in 1944, the museum began to rebuild. It was actively replenished with new exhibits and in 1950. the profile has already taken shape as a museum of local lore. At that time, it consisted of three departments: the pre-revolutionary past, the history of Soviet society and the department of nature. In 1968, the museum included the buildings of the Karaite kenassas, which today houses the museum of the history of the Karaites, and religious rituals are performed. Today, the funds of the Local History Museum number more than 80 thousand exhibits, including rich collections of ancient and Scythian monuments, weapons and numismatics, flora and fauna, various historical expositions. The whole history of the city is presented here - from the time of ancient Kerkinitida to modern Yevpatoria. Also, the pride of the Yevpatoria Museum of Local Lore is the night diorama of the Yevpatoria landing in 1942, one of the few in the former USSR. It shows a separate moment of a heroic landing in the old part of Evpatoria. The entrance to the museum is decorated with a pair of artillery pieces - rare examples of early rifled systems of the late 19th century. It was with these, already outdated weapons, that during the First World War, the battery covered the Yevpatoria port. Today these guns are a favorite place for photographing residents of the city and tourists who want to capture the memory of their vacation in Evpatoria.
