Kapuzinerkirche church description and photos - Austria: Klagenfurt. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The name in English is Kapuzinerkirche. Photo and descriptionThe Capuchinerkirche is a Roman Catholic church built by the Capuchins in 1646-1649 in Klagenfurt. The church, consecrated in honor of the Virgin Mary, adjoined the Capuchin monastery - a simple, unremarkable building. The appearance of the Kapuzinerkirche has not changed at all since its construction. But the building of the old monastery was demolished in 1979 when new streets were laid. The new monastery occupies a modern building east of the church, which was built in the 1970s. The small church is crowned with a narrow octagonal turret with a high spire. A lantern is installed in the tower. The Church of the Holy Virgin Mary was built in the early Baroque style. The south-facing entrance to the church is protected by a small canopy on pillars. Dedications to the heavenly patroness of this church - Our Lady - can be found not only in the name of the temple, but also in the interior. The church has three altars made of dark, gilded wood. The central altar of the 18th century has a unique altarpiece, which depicts the Virgin Mary with St. Francis, surrounded by angels. The left side altar is dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. It was acquired in 1951 from Portugal. The right altar is decorated with the image of St. Joseph. There is also a statue of the Virgin Mary of Loretana in the temple. Among the most valuable relics of the Church of the Holy Virgin Mary, you can see the statue of K. Campidell, made in 1965 and depicting the Sacred Heart of the Lord. The Capuchin Church is open to both believers and ordinary curious tourists.
