The Drenthe Museum is a history and art museum located in Assen, Drenthe province. It was opened in 1854 in the building of the former administration of the Drenthe province.

Now the museum's exposition consists of several sections. One of the most interesting sections is devoted to history and archeology. Here you can see the oldest dugout boat in the world - the "canoe from Pessa". It was found in 1955 and dates back to 8200 - 7600. BC e. There are also mummies of the "swamp people" - the mummified remains of prehistoric people that have been preserved in the swampy soil. Most of the exposition is occupied by objects of the so-called "culture of funnel-shaped cups", mammoth bones, etc.

The art section of the museum presents painting and applied arts of the period 1885 - 1935. The exposition opens with the so-called "Ballroom", in which visitors can feel the atmosphere of a bygone era. The adjoining rooms are dedicated to the periods from 1885 to 1915 and from 1915 to 1935. In another hall, books and printed materials are displayed.

The Drenthe Museum is one of the few museums that has an impressive collection of pieces of art in the genre of modern realism.

In 2011, a new part of the museum was opened. It is located underground and hosts various exhibitions, while the main exhibition remains in the old building.
