Photo and description

Magnificent beaches, crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea, well-developed infrastructure and a lot of interesting sights every year attract more and more tourists to the picturesque Greek island of Naxos.

Most of the famous resorts of Naxos are located on the west coast of the island. Nevertheless, there are many more beautiful places on the island that deserve the closest attention. One of these places, of course, is the small coastal town of Apollonas, surrounded by picturesque hills. It is located in a cozy natural harbor on the northeastern coast of Naxos, about 48 km from the capital of the island of the same name.

Until recently, Apollonas was just a small fishing village. In recent years, the tourism sector has begun to actively develop here, turning Apollonas into a very popular resort. Today you will find a fairly good selection of accommodation here - hotels, apartments and rooms for rent. But if you are planning to spend your vacation in Apollonos, and not visit it with a one-day visit, you should still take care of booking accommodation in advance. Apollonas is famous for its many excellent taverns and restaurants with excellent local cuisine, most of which are concentrated in the waterfront area.

Near the settlement of Apollonos there is an ancient marble quarry. Here you can see one of the most famous landmarks of Naxos - the impressive marble Kuros with a height of 10.5 m. As a rule, the statues were carved directly in the quarries, and then delivered to their destination. The work on this kouros was never completed due to the cracks formed, and the marble statue remained here forever. Kouros dates from the 6th century BC
