Bharanangaram is a place where pilgrims from all over the world flock. This city, which is located in the south of India, in the state of Kerala, has an area of only about 24 square kilometers and a population of no more than 17 thousand people. But at the same time, it is a real complex of shrines, the most important and famous of which is the tomb of Saint Alphonse - the first Christian saint born in India. It is located on the territory of the millennial church of St. Mary. Alfonsa was born in 1910 and died in 1936, and the day of her death - July 28 - is a very important date for believers. This woman led a righteous life, and even in her youth she devoted all her time to prayers and help others. Over time, her grave turned into a place of real pilgrimage and worship.

Also in the city is the famous Sri Krishna Swami Temple, with which, according to legend, the appearance of the name of the city "Bharanangaram" is associated. It comes from the word "Paranamkanam", meaning a forest in which sacred Hindu rituals were performed. The temple itself is located on the northern bank of the Minachil River, and is one of the most famous landmarks of the city.

In addition to religious shrines, Bharananganama is famous for its elite educational institutions. So Alphonsa Residential School is currently one of the best high schools in Kerala.
