Photo and descriptionThe Church of Theodosius of the Caves was erected at the turn of the 17th-18th centuries in a typical Ukrainian baroque style. Funds for the construction of the temple were allocated by the Cossack Colonel Konstantin Mokievsky. There is a legend connected with the temple that it was here, where a cancer with the relics of St. Theodosius stood on the remains of a stump, miracles began to occur, and restoration work even confirmed the presence of this very stump under the throne of the church. Earlier, churches were built on the site of the temple, which is evidenced not only by excavations, but also by drawings of the 17th century. However, earlier the churches were wooden. The site for the construction of the stone church was vacated for a rather atypical reason at that time - the previous church did not burn down, but was sold and moved to a new place. The stone temple impresses with its incredibly perfect proportions, not to mention the masterful design of the facades. The narthex also stands out in the temple - here it is unusually wide, moreover, it also has small stair towers on its sides. Research carried out by archaeologists found that the layout of the temple literally repeats the layout of its predecessor. At the beginning of the 19th century, the temple was reconstructed, during which a three-tiered Empire style bell tower was added to it on the west side. In the second half of the same century, the altar of St. John was added on the south side, and at the beginning of the 20th century, the upper part of the bell tower was changed. The courtyard of the church was surrounded by a stone fence, as well as service and clergy buildings. During the years of Soviet power, the temple was closed and used as an archive room, and during the war it suffered from a fire. The main restoration work in the temple was carried out in the late 50s of the twentieth century, during which the later extensions were dismantled. Now it is the temple of the UOC (KP), which founded a monastery here.
