Photo and description

Poros is the capital of the island of the same name, located in the southwestern part of the Saronic Gulf off the coast of the Peloponnese, 58 km from the port of Piraeus. The city is built in the form of an amphitheater on the slope of a picturesque green hill. Narrow cobbled streets, where traditional Greek houses coexist with neoclassical buildings, create a special flavor and a cozy atmosphere.

The most famous monument of the city and its symbol is the historical "clock tower" built in 1927. The tower is located on the top of a hill among prickly pears and pine trees and is visible from anywhere in the city. From here you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city, the bay and the famous Lemon Forest on the Peloponnese coast. In the city center, on Korizi Square, there is a small but interesting Archaeological Museum. Its exposition presents unique artifacts from the Mycenaean era to Roman times. The museum's collection also contains important relics discovered during the excavations of the ancient sanctuary of Poseidon, the ruins of which are located in the center of the island.

In the summer, this resort is quite popular among both Greek residents and foreign tourists. There is an excellent selection of hotels and comfortable apartments, and the lively promenade is full of shops, as well as cozy restaurants and cafes serving traditional Greek cuisine. The city's nightlife is also very diverse. Poros is also famous for its excellent beaches, where you can not only swim and sunbathe, but also do various types of water sports.

There is a daily ferry service from the port of Piraeus to the island of Poros.
