Photo and description

The famous historical and memorial museum of M.V. Lomonosov is located in the village of Lomonosovo, Kholmogorsk district, Arkhangelsk region. It is located in a wooden house where the Lomonosov family once lived. The opening of the museum took place in November 1939 on the eve of the 175th anniversary of the death of Mikhail Vasilyevich.

Previously, the school named after Lomonosov, founded in 1868, was located here. Later, in 1872, a new building was built for her, and a folk theater settled here. In 1896 a free library appeared here, and later a bone carving school. In other words, even before the formation of the museum, Lomonosov's home was held in high esteem by fellow countrymen and was of great importance in educational work. Currently, the main museum exposition is devoted to the life of the family. In 2001, an exhibition hall was opened at the museum, which is equipped with an art gallery and an exhibition of Kholmogory bone carving, consisting of 400 exhibits.

The Lomonosov Museum consists of 8 rooms. In the first room there are exhibits dedicated to the Mishaninskaya village - the birthplace of M.V. Lomonosov. Here you can see a backlit model of the estate, household items and a large picture “Life of a Pomor family”. The most valuable exhibit in Hall II is the baptismal font from the burnt down Kurostrovsky temple, in which the newborn Misha was baptized. It is interesting that even now parents, dreaming that their children will be good, ask the priest to baptize them in this font. In Hall III you can see drawings and models of ships, trade documents of Vasily Lomonosov, who is successfully selling seafood. There is also a grandfather clock of Peter the Great, who once came to the neighboring village of Vavchuga. Old-printed books of those years, including "Grammar" by Smotritsky and "Arithmetic" by Magnitsky, enjoy great attention of visitors. In the corner is the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, created from the bone of a mammoth.
In the IV hall you can find models of Lomonosov's chemical laboratory and physics room. Hall V contains the scholar's philological, historical and geographical works. Here you can also see a panel with a portrait of Lomonosov, dated 1962. The genealogical tree of the Lomonosov family is located in Hall VI. Hall VII is given over to temporary exhibitions, and Hall VIII is a rural exhibition hall, which displays carved things from walrus tusks, mammoth and cow bones, sperm whale teeth.

The museum funds are rich in exhibits: there are about 4500 items. The library contains over 3000 volumes. The collection of Kholmogory carving numbers over 550 items, 50 books of the 8th century, a collection of tools of a builder, roofer, bone carver and mason.

Local residents say that a folk path will never grow to the Lomonosov Museum. Tours are organized here not only for large groups, but also for individual visitors. Residents of the Arkhangelsk region consider themselves unusual people, as they are not only fellow countrymen of the great scientist, but also cherish the memory of him for 300 years. 2011 is an anniversary year. Exactly 3 centuries have passed since the birth of the great scientist. And all these years he lives in the hearts of people.

Historical and Memorial Museum of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University has its own awards in the form of certificates of honor and diplomas. In 2005, he became a laureate of the M.V. Lomonosov for the administration of the Kholmogorsk region. Naturally, excellent guest reviews are the best reward for the museum staff.
