Photo and description

The Paguro platform is an interesting dive site in the vicinity of Ravenna. The platform lies at the bottom of the sea just opposite Porto Corsini.

On September 29, 1965, a catastrophe occurred in Ravenna: during the drilling of a methane field, as a result of an accident, the Paguro platform, located in the open sea, exploded and sank. She sank to a depth of 25 meters 14.5 miles off the coast of Marina di Ravenna. Then three people died.

Soon, the remains of this wreck became a very attractive diving site for sports diving enthusiasts. Indeed, in addition to the platform itself, here you can see numerous marine life that have found refuge on this artificially created reef. The most common invertebrates are echinoderms and starfish. Among the crustaceans, you can see lobsters, mantis shrimp and several types of crabs. Fish in the vicinity of the platform are typical inhabitants of the rocky seabed, which, however, are quite rare in other parts of the northwestern Adriatic: bream, sea ruffs, perches and eels.

The transparency of the water at the crash site of the Paguro platform varies from a few tens of centimeters to 15-18 meters. The current here is always directed from north to south and is highly dependent on the ebb and flow. In the warm season, the surface of the water warms up to 22 ° C, and at a depth of 18 meters it reaches 16 ° C. True, we must not forget about the currents in which the water temperature can drop to 10-12 ° C. In general, diving in these places is quite difficult, though interesting.

In 1995, a special Paguro Association was created to regulate the flow of visitors to see the wreck and to protect marine biodiversity.
