Photo and description

The Buyan-Kuli-khan mausoleum is located southeast of the historical center of Bukhara, about 2 km from the Lyabi-hauz complex, on the way to the city of Kagan, next to the tomb of the famous poet Saif ad-Din Boharzi. The mausoleum became the last refuge of Buyan-Kuli-khan, one of the last rulers of the Chagatai Khanate, which also included Bukhara. Buyan-Kuli was a protege of Amir Kazagan, who in 1346 seized power in the khanate. In 1358 Buyan-Kuli was executed by the ruler Abd-Allah, who replaced Kazagan, who, according to historical chronicles, was inflamed with passion for the wife of the unfortunate khan. Buyan-Kuli was buried near the tomb of his teacher Sayf ad-Din Boharzi.

The Buyan-Kuli-khan mausoleum is a cubic building with an area of 12X8 meters, in the corners of which there are semicircular columns. The entrance to the mausoleum is located on the eastern narrow side. A freestanding portal, richly decorated with terracotta tiles, is built in front of it. The mausoleum consists of two rooms. The first, prayer, measures 6X6 meters. There is a dome above it. Behind the prayer room, you can find a smaller room set aside for the tomb of Buyan-Kuli-khan. His tombstone was lined with majolica. Partially it has survived to our time. Passages have been created in the walls, along which one can climb the galleries and the roof.

The mausoleum is decorated in blue, light blue and white colors. Its facades are decorated with images with geometric and plant motifs, Kufic inscriptions. The reconstruction of the Buyan-Kuli-khan mausoleum took place in 1926.
