Fountain "Robinson, Friday and the Dog" is one of the original and unusual sights of the city of Tobolsk. The sculptural composition is located in one of the city squares on Semyon Remezov Street. The monument to the world-famous literary character Robinson Crusoe, invented by the English writer and publicist Daniel Defoe, appeared in Tobolsk in 2007. Bronze sculptures of the traveler Robinson Crusoe, Friday and the dogs were brought to the city from Izhevsk.

Few people knows that according to the second book of the famous writer Daniel Dafoe about the adventures of the adventurer Robinson, the literary character traveled across Siberia, and even visited Tobolsk. Not every city can boast that such a famous character lived in it. Robinson lived in this city not for a day or two, but for eight whole months, taking advantage of all the then benefits of civilization.

Daniel Defoe somewhat sparingly and not quite accurately described the life and culture of that time, but his book indicates the exact name of the city. The author's intention is based on a real incident. The prototype of the main character was made by Alexander Selkirk, a Scottish sailor. This fact was registered by him, on April 17, 1704. At that time, in the 17th century, the city of Tobolsk was a large settlement in Siberia, a trade route from Europe to Asia passed through it, thanks to which it became known to Europeans even then.

The monument consists of three bronze figures: Robinson Crusoe himself on skis, his companion Friday, wrapped in a sheepskin coat, and a husky dog. According to the project, a fountain was built near the monument, walking paths and original parkland.
