Photo and description

The building of the Church of the Holy Trinity, crowned with peaks characteristic of the late Gothic era, is located next to the chapel of St. Anne, which, like the temple of interest to us, was built at the expense of the Franciscan monks. This church has survived several wars, served as a bargaining chip between the city and the Franciscan order, belonged to different confessions, was destroyed and rose again from the ashes.

Modern travelers who have looked into the Church of the Holy Trinity can kneel before the altar on one of the 9 benches intended for guests of honor and built in 1510-1511, admire the pulpit of 1541, which underwent some changes in XVII century, remember the Italian Giovanni B. B. d'Oria, standing in front of his death slab. It was this humanist who gave Gdansk his collection of rare books, which became the basis of the richest city library. By the way, this church was originally a library.

Immediately after the construction of the church, Catholic services were held in it. However, the too active actions of the monk-preacher Alexander Svenichen led to the fact that the local Franciscan community was forced to appease the city by presenting it with the Church of the Holy Trinity. At first, a theological school was set up in the church, and then it was given to the Protestants. Only in 1946 the Roman Catholic Church was able to return its temple.

Before the war, a grammar school worked at the church, and then a library. Now it is a temple open to visitors, where services are regularly held.
