Photo and description

One of the oldest university buildings in the world is located on Jagiellonian Street, which has not changed its purpose since the Middle Ages. This is the Collegium Maius, erected in 1400 and serving for centuries as the main residence of the university, and now has become a museum of its history, the state rooms of which are used for especially solemn occasions.

Krakow University was founded in 1364 by order of Casimir the Great. This building appeared after Vladislav Jagiello bought several houses and combined them into a university residence. After the reconstruction, the building acquired its characteristic appearance: the walls of red Gothic bricks are propped up by massive scarps; steep roof slopes cut by chimneys with chimney tops are covered with high jagged pediments.
