The title in English is Jesuitenkirche. Photo and descriptionThe Church of the Jesuits is a church in Lucerne, consecrated in honor of St. Francis Xavier, belonging to the Jesuit order and becoming the first temple in the territory of modern Switzerland, made in the Baroque style in the 17th century. Both outside and inside the temple looks pompous and rich. The architecture of the building is an example of the sacred architecture of the Renaissance period. Through skillfully made stained-glass windows, light penetrates into the interior of the temple and gives the interior shine and splendor. Two neatly domed towers rise above the city, attracting everyone's attention. The church was erected in the period from 1666 to 1677. There is an assumption that the idea of its creation belongs to the Jesuit father Heinrich Mayer and the priest Christoph Vogler. In any case, the design projects for the side chapels belong to Mayer. In the 1950s and 1970s, planned restoration of the building was carried out. In 1982 a new organ was handed over to the temple, which still belongs to it. The interior of the temple was created mainly at the end of the 17th century. This is an intricate stucco ornament, and an altar decorated with red marble. In the center of the altar is depicted Saint Francis Xavier kneeling before the Virgin Mary. The Jesuit Church is active and is open to everyone. Moreover, it is used as a concert hall during especially significant holidays thanks to its extraordinary acoustics.
