Photo and description

The erosive outlier is located on the eastern slope of Sokolovaya Gora, near the village of Zaton. The attraction, created by nature itself, is a cylindrical, raised finger of a gigantic size, for which the locals called it "Devil's finger". The height of the natural monument is about 30 meters (visible 4m.), And the width is about six.

The time of the formation of the outlier is unknown, but in the nineteenth century "Three Monks" was already listed as an attraction included in ancient guidebooks. In different periods of time, the "guardian of nature" was overgrown with new legends and traditions, but destruction and landslides over time turned the three monks into a single boulder on a steep cliff. From a geological point of view, it is unique, the only large morphologically pronounced erosion block in the region, which is destroyed over time as a result of the impact of natural processes. The remnant, having a fine-grained structure in the quartz composition of which includes gray sandstone, and the rounded formations located at the base, consist of alternating rocks of clay and sand, is presented to geologists as a unique exhibit of nature and a reflection of the geological history of the Earth.

The attraction "Three Monks" has not only geological and historical value, but also is located in a picturesque place on the banks of the Volga. Being next to a unique natural monument, you will see a beautiful landscape of the river basin, Green Island and the longest Saratov bridge in Europe.
