Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts description and photos - Australia: Hobart, Tasmania. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts. Photo and DescriptionHobart's “sacred” site for all avid bibliophiles is the Allport Library and the Museum of Fine Arts, which are part of the collection of the State Library of Tasmania. This unique collection was donated to the people of Tasmania in 1965 by Henry Allport, whose distant ancestors arrived on the island in the early 19th century. The museum consists of many spacious rooms, in which, in addition to rare books, you can see a wide variety of items - antique furniture (including the famous English Chippendale style), ceramics, Chinese porcelain, silver and glass products, dating back to the 17th century. The books presented in the collection have been collected over the years - these are truly unique copies, which, nevertheless, are available to everyone. In total, 7 thousand books and manuscripts, 3 thousand works of art, 2 thousand photographs and about a thousand different items of historical and cultural value are collected here. An interesting part of the collection is represented by the work of artists from among the prisoners. The Allport Library regularly hosts art exhibitions of works from the 19th century.
