Photo and description

Among the huge variety of attractions on the Greek island of Crete, the island's museums undoubtedly deserve special attention, including the small but entertaining Folklore Museum (also known as the "Cretan House") in the city of Chania. It was founded in 1990 on the initiative of two local residents - Aspasia Bikaki and Irini Kumandraki, whose private collections became the basis of the museum collection. The museum is located in the heart of the Old Town on Halidon Street, near the Archaeological Museum, and today it is one of the most interesting and popular attractions in Chania (the entrance to the museum is located in the courtyard of a Catholic church).

The Folklore Museum in Chania - this is a great opportunity to get acquainted with the history of culture, traditions, main occupations, as well as the peculiarities of life and life of the inhabitants of the island of Crete in the 18-19 centuries. In the exposition of the museum you can see household utensils, various tools and equipment (including agricultural tools for sowing and harvesting crops and special devices that were once used in their work by representatives of such professions as a shoemaker, tailor, weaver, etc. ), furniture and decor items, textiles, clothing, musical instruments and much more. Of particular interest is the magnificent collection of handmade lace and embroidery. The color of the museum exposition, of course, is given by the wax figures dressed in traditional costumes, thanks to which the interior of a typical "Cretan house" and the reconstruction of workplaces impress with their realism.
