House-Museum of Zlatyu Boyadzhiev description and photo - Bulgaria: Plovdiv. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionZlatyu Boyadzhiev (1903-1976) is a famous portrait painter who is also known for his landscapes. Among his compatriots, Boyadzhiev is one of the most distinctive painters of the 20th century. The house-museum is located in the Old part of Plovdiv and was founded in 1984. Throughout the existence of the museum, it was run by different people: from 1984 to 1988 - Monika Romenska, from 1988 to 2009 - Matei Mateev, and from 2010 to the present day - Sevliya Todorova. In 2003, the gallery celebrated the centenary of Boyadzhiev's birth. Art critics divide Boyadzhiev's work into two periods, which are strikingly different from each other: before 1951 and after 1951, when the painter suffered a severe stroke, as a result of which half of Boyadzhiev's body was paralyzed. After a seizure, the artist painted pictures with his left hand for several years and was practically speechless. The first period is characterized by classical compositions, with predominantly rural landscapes, in style close to the Dutch painting of the 16th century. After a stroke, the artist switched to grotesque images and compositions, which he tried to maintain in a color scheme that was favorite among expressionists. The gallery of the house-museum displays 74 paintings by the Bulgarian artist, most of which belong to the second period of creativity. Also, most of the works are owned by the Plovdiv Art Gallery. Boyadzhiev enjoyed success in his homeland, as he ideally fit into the realities of socialist Bulgaria. He was awarded an award by the Bulgarian Union of Artists.
