Photo and description

In old Kotor, on a narrow street connecting Arms Square and Liberation Square, or Muki Square, there is another architectural monument - the Beskucha Palace, built in 1776. This palace belonged to the Beskucha family , which in a short time became rich thanks to the sea trade, which flourished at that time in Kotor.

The Beskuca Palace is a four-storey building constructed from the hewn stones of Korcula. The architecture of the palace is quite simple, with few decorative elements. The most striking, attention-grabbing and particularly valuable portal is created in the Gothic style around the 15th century and is the family coat of arms of the Byzanti family. How this portal with the coat of arms of the Byzanti family got to the Beskucha Palace is unknown, but presumably, the Beskucha Palace was built on the site of the destroyed buildings of the Bisanti family, and the portal was moved from there. On the sides of the portal are two small baroque windows. Even being partially destroyed, erased by time, in general, the elements of the portal are pretty well preserved and look impressive. Unfortunately, the lion in the center is badly damaged, but the lions on the capitals are almost intact. Well preserved human figurines, shelves under small lions, as well as the frame of the portal - grape leaves entwined with a ribbon. One can only imagine how this work of art looked initially, and admire the jewelry work of the masters.

At the beginning of the XIX century. the dynasty of the Beskucha family gradually faded away, and the palace became the property of the Kotor municipality.
