Photo and description

On the banks of the Mekong River in the vicinity of Vientiane, you can see a collection of giant sculptures depicting Buddhas and various mythological creatures. This Buddha Park is one of the attractions of Laos, which delights all tourists, without exception. It is better to come here early in the morning so that the sun does not interfere with taking high-quality photos. For a more interesting perspective, you will have to climb to the observation deck, arranged in one of the sculptures in the shape of a sphere. The entrance to it is designed in the form of a demon's mouth. The guest, passing along the spiral staircase, as planned by the master, rises from hell to heaven. Other compositions were installed on the sites. 365 windows were made in the sphere - according to the number of days a year.

About 200 works have been collected in the Buddha Park, executed by the sculptor Luang-pu Bunlya Sulilat in the middle of the last century. In the 1970s, he was forced to leave the country, moved to neighboring Thailand, where he continued to create bizarre statues that combined Hindu and Buddhist myths. In Thailand, his statues were also collected in one place - in Sala Keoku Park. Ordinary people worked as apprentices for Bunly Sulilat, who also became the spiritual leader who created his own teaching. The statues seem to be very ancient, removed from the earth or from the jungle and somehow cleaned of layers. But this is a misleading impression. The sculptor chose an inexpensive material for his works - reinforced concrete.

The most notable sculpture in the park is a large reclining Buddha. Its height is 40 meters. It is surrounded by smaller statues. There are snakes, elephants, crocodiles, gods, heroes of legends.
