The Totem Museum Association was founded in 1991. It includes the Museum of Church Antiquity, the Museum of Local Lore, the House-Museum of A.I.Kuskov, the Museum of Sailors, the Museum of N. Rubtsov in the village of Nikolskoye, Open storage of funds, the Museum of Family and Childhood.

Opening of the Museum of Church antiquity took place in 1995 in the city of Totma in a previously existing church named in honor of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos. The construction of the church was carried out in one connection with the nearby bell tower; its observation platforms allow you to enjoy a beautiful view of the entire city of Totma from a bird's eye view, as well as get acquainted with various exhibition projects. It is this museum that combines a wonderful past, which is so close in spirit to everyone.

The Museum of Local Lore is considered one of the oldest museums in the entire Vologda region. It was founded in 1915 by the chairmen of the Totem branch of the Vologda Society for the Study of the Northern Lands. The museum is located in the premises of a former theological school. It features three departments: art, history and nature.

The life of the famous Ivan Alexandrovich Kuskov was associated with the work of the Russian-American company for almost 30 years. It was Ivan Alexandrovich who in 1812 organized the famous "Fort Ross" - a Russian fortress in the state of California, of which he soon became the ruler. At the moment, Fort Ross is a national American park.

The Maritime Museum was opened in 1996 on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Russian fleet. It is located in the former building of the Church of the Entry into Jerusalem, which at one time was built at the expense of merchants-sailors from Totem Peter and Grigory Panov. The museum presents the history of the development of the Russian fleet, which began in the times of Peter the Great and continues to this day. The largest part of the exposition tells about the wanderings of merchant sailors across the Pacific Ocean in the second half of the 18th century. As you know, numerous expeditions and the development of northern territories gave the Totem merchants extensive opportunities, which allowed them to build fabulously beautiful temples with luxurious decoration. One of the exhibition halls is dedicated to modern totemchans P. Filev, Hero of Russia Sergei Premin and poet Nikolai Rubtsov.

It is with the land of Totem that Nikolai Nikolsky's hard fate is connected, which has become a real homeland for the famous poet. In the village of Nikolskoye, the young poet was brought up while in an orphanage. Here he began to study at a local school and graduated from the seven-year school. By the will of fate, in 1990, the opening of the first exposition took place in one of the rooms of the previously existing building of the orphanage, which became a dedication to the poet Rubtsov. The museum is located 90 km from Totma, but this does not stop true admirers of the famous poet's talent.

Spaso-Sumorin Monastery is considered the largest cultural and spiritual center of the entire Russian North. The founding of the monastery took place in 1554 by Theodosius Sumorin, who became the abbot of the monastery and ruled it until his death in 1568.

The popular Museum of Family and Childhood was founded in May 2008. The museum exposition will acquaint visitors with the traditions of family life of the 19-20 centuries. As known, childhood is absolutely unthinkable without toys and it is the city of Totma that is a real city of toys. The exhibition presents a wide variety of toys: ritual dolls, simple twist dolls, wicker toys, toys made of wood and tin of the famous craft Petrovsk school, dolls of the 80s-90s, as well as modern toys. Any of the visitors will be able to try their hand at making toys, for example, making a traditional doll out of matter. In addition, you can try your hand at being an actor in a puppet show or master the loom. You can learn a lot about ritual Russian holidays from the museum's exposition. In order to revive folk traditions, the employees of the department hold various ethnographic holidays: "The Intercession-Father", "Shirokaya Maslenitsa", "Christmas Tale", as well as game programs for numerous tourists.
