Photo and description

There are two famous TV towers in Tokyo - the old one in the Minato-ku area and the new one, one of the tallest buildings in the world, in the Sumida area.

The old The tower was built in 1958 and at the time of construction was considered the tallest steel structure in the world. She rose above Tokyo by 332.6 meters. Today she is only 23rd among the world's TV towers. For aviation safety, the tower was painted orange and white. The tower transmitted TV and radio signals from the country's largest broadcasting companies until 2011. Then she transferred this part of the work to the newly opened TV tower, and she herself began to act as a predominantly tourist attraction and the visiting card of the Japanese capital.

The tower is visited by millions of tourists who are attracted by its observation decks, museums, restaurants and even an aquarium located in the so-called "Podzhny Gorodok" at its base. Two observatories are open for visitors at a height of 145 and 250 meters, the "old woman" is often filmed in films, drawn in comics and cartoons, she participates in night light shows.

In the summer of 2011, Japanese TV switched to digital broadcasting, and the height of the old TV tower was insufficient to transmit the signal to some areas and to the upper floors of high-rise buildings. Therefore, another television tower was built in Tokyo, already 634 meters high. It is called the "Sky Tree", and the tower got its name from the competition, the winners of which were the first to climb into its observatory in May 2012.

The construction of the "Heavenly Tree" lasted three and a half years - from July 2008 and ended in February 2012. Its observation decks allow you to admire the views of Tokyo from a higher height than the observatory of the old tower - from 350 and 450 meters. Both sites can accommodate almost three thousand people.

The "Sky Tree" is the tallest television tower in the world, and among other high-rise buildings it occupies an honorable second place after the Burj Khalifa tower in the UAE, whose height is 828 meters.
