In 1927, the city was officially renamed Roseto degli Abruzzi. This is due in part to the sheer number and variety of roses and oleanders that grow in abundance throughout. Some of the city's attractions include the Pinacoteca Comunale, which exhibits works by local artists, ceramics and furniture. Among the religious buildings are the churches of Santissima Annunziata and Santa Maria Assunta and the Russicum chapel. All three are remarkable for their beautiful architecture and works of art stored inside, and the Russicum Chapel is also notable for being Orthodox, not Catholic. Roseto degli Abruzzi also has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, several tennis courts, a huge sports stadium for 4500 spectators, soccer and bocce fields (for marksmanship).
