Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionIn October 2002, on Saturday 5th, not so far from Lake Semyonovskoye, a popular recreation place for Murmansk residents, a memorial complex was opened, perpetuating the memory of the dead sailors in peacetime ... This event was timed to coincide with the City Day, which is celebrated in Murmansk on October 4. At half past six in the evening Moscow time, all Murmansk ships, and those that were in the roadstead in the Kola Bay, and that crossed the World Ocean, marked the opening of the memorial with a long blast. A memorial complex in the Leninsky district, between the street named after Chelyuskintsev and the avenue named after the Heroes of the Severomorians. The architects of this memorial are N. Bogdanova and N. Kireeva. The complex is an Orthodox Church of the Savior on the Waters located at the top of the hill; a staircase with viewing platforms leads to it. A memorial hall is built in the center of the staircase in the form of a hexagonal lighthouse. On 5 walls of the hall there are memorial plates in memory of the sailors who did not return. Also in the hall, visitors can enjoy musical accompaniment in the form of cries of seagulls and the sound of the surf. The lighthouse is equipped with real sound and light signaling devices, which were switched on at the opening of the ceremony. The height of the lighthouse reaches 17.5 meters. A ship's anchor was arranged in front of the lighthouse, at the foot of the anchor a capsule was solemnly laid, filled with water from the sea, which became a common grave for sailors who did not return to the shore. On the upper platform, close to the lighthouse, there is a sea church of the Savior on the Waters, built with donations from citizens and businesses. Savior on the Waters is the first Orthodox church located in the center of Murmansk. Its construction was started in honor of the 85th anniversary of the city. The opening of the temple was timed to coincide with the 86th anniversary of Murmansk. The temple was consecrated on October 3, 2002. In this temple there are icons of the northern saints, helpers of seafarers. The main staircase leads to the temple, near the church there is an observation deck, from which a wonderful panorama of the city of Murmansk and the bay opens. The symbolic lighthouse and the Church of the Savior on the Waters are the "calling cards" of Murmansk. After the opening ceremony of the memorial complex in the Church of the Savior on the Waters, an all-night service was held in memory of the dead sailors. In 2009, on June 15, next to the lighthouse, the cabin of the nuclear submarine "Kursk" was installed, which became a monument to submariners who died in peacetime. The idea of the monument was hatched for a long time, various options were considered and one general opinion was that the monument should not be pompous. A fragment of the felling was raised from the depth and brought into proper form. The work took a long time. First, the wheelhouse was restored, then the project was thought out. This was done on a voluntary basis by caring people. On the wall, which is built next to the wheelhouse, the names of the submarines on which the sailors died in peacetime are written. There are 33 submarines listed. Also, a palm trace is carved, touching which you seem to shake the hand of a person who remains forever in the sea. The opening of the monument took place on July 26. None of the Murmansk sailors who died in the line of duty in peacetime will be forgotten. For walks and outdoor recreation, the memorial has become a favorite place for the townspeople. On infrequent warm sunny days, all the benches are occupied by the residents of Murmansk, the most desperate of which are located on the green slope. In the late afternoon, when it gets dark, the viewing platform offers a stunning view of the port and the city, shining with many lights.
