Photo and description

The Church of the Assumption in Gonchary was built in 1654. It is a small pillarless temple with five onion domes.

Of interest is the completion of the temple. Instead of a pozakomarny covering, a flat roof is installed. It cuts off the lower tier of kokoshniks from the rest of the end and turns it into a kind of frieze. There are five heads on the drums on the roof. At the base of the drums are kokoshniks. The central chapter with kokoshniks stands on a low platform, decorated with small arches.

In the 17th century, the ward covering of temples begins to replace the zakomarny one. In 1702, a refectory was added to the church, the southern side-altar was redesigned, and a cupola was installed above it. A bell tower was built in 1764-74. Faience inserts for the western facade were made at the end of the 19th century. Particularly interesting on the drum are the domes of the southern chapel of St. Tikhon of Amafuntsky tiles with relief figures of the four apostles-evangelists by Stepan Ivanovich Polubeev. The stars on the domes of the temple appeared in the late 19th - early 20th centuries.

The temple, the refectory and the bell tower are placed on the same axis. Such a composition of temples was established in Moscow in the second half of the 17th century.

The main shrine of the temple is the icon of the Mother of God "Three-handed". This icon was made from a copy sent from the Greek Athos monastery to Patriarch Nikon in 1663.

The icons of the 17th-18th centuries have been preserved in the iconostasis. The iconostasis of the south side-altar is stylized in the forms of the 17th century.
