Photo and description

In the general plan for the development of Leningrad, adopted in 1935, Moskovsky Prospekt was assigned the role of the most important thoroughfare of the city. According to this plan, administrative buildings began to be erected around the new highway, representative residential quarters appeared, and a huge Palace of Soviets was built. On the territory of the former Syzran field, on the site of the clay quarries of the brick factory, it was planned to lay out a park according to the project of the architect TB Dubyago.

By the spring of 1941, the direction of the main alley had already been outlined, a small part of the landscape garden had been equipped, and a hedge was formed along Moskovsky Prospekt. The outbreak of the Great Patriotic War stopped these plans. Instead of a park, anti-tank ditches and pillboxes appeared here, and the brick factory turned into a crematorium. Leningraders who died from bombing, cold and hunger were brought here. The plant could not cope with its terrible work, therefore thousands and thousands of citizens are buried on the very territory of the plant. It is not without reason that this place is now called "the second Piskarevka".

After the end of the war, work on the construction of the park continued. Moscow Victory Park is located between Moskovsky Avenue, Yuri Gagarin Avenue, Kuznetsovskaya and Basseinaya streets. The territory of the park is 68 hectares. The main alley of the park is the Alley of Heroes. On both sides of it there are bronze busts of Leningraders who were twice awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and Socialist Labor. It starts from Moskovsky Prospekt from the propylia colonnade, decorated on the inside with bronze compositions reflecting the exploits of Soviet soldiers and workers of besieged Leningrad. Behind them is the fountain, which was the largest in the city at the time of its creation. The fountain is a granite bowl, 25 meters in diameter, decorated with laurel wreaths and bronze tulips. In the period from July 1946, when the park was opened, and up to our time, the territory of the park has increased seven times.

Now the park is home to more than a hundred species of various trees and shrubs. In place of anti-tank ditches and craters from shells and bombs, ponds and canals of the park were built. Numerous decorative sculptures make the park even more picturesque. On both sides of the main front alley of the park there are territories that are decorated in the style of an English landscape garden. Gazebos, pavilions are scattered everywhere, along granite slopes you can walk to figured ponds, and canals cross humpbacked bridges. The park also has sports and playgrounds. On the ponds of the park (there are 10 of them here) in the summer visitors go boating and catamarans, and in the winter they go ice skating. There are always a lot of chess players on the benches.

Now the park is being reconstructed, which involves planting new trees instead of the dead, repairing paths and alleys, hydraulic structures.

Moscow Victory Park - a military blockade memorial. That is why a chapel-church was built here in honor of All the saints who shone in the land of Russia. On memorable days, services are held here.
