Photo and description

The Church of St. Panteleimon is one of the iconic and architectural landmarks of the capital of Moldova - Chisinau. It is located in the very center of the city among old trees with lush crowns, which attracts a huge number of tourists.

The building of the temple, built in 1891 in the neo-Byzantine style, is an amazing architectural monument of the 19th century. The author of this project was the famous architect A. Bernardazzi. A year after its construction, the church was included in the number of architectural structures that were marked as a public value. The money for the construction of the monastery was donated by the honorary citizens of Chisinau, brothers Ioann and Victor Sinadino.

The main feature of the temple building is its shape in the form of a cross with equal branches, and also a pair of intersecting arches covering the space of the central part of the church building. The extraordinary beauty of the church is given by an octahedral light drum, completed by a dome. The very criss-crossing arches serve as the basis for the drum. The second dome adorns the bell tower of the church.

Particular attention is drawn to the facade of the building with its unusual cladding - the masonry was lined with horizontal stripes, where two light stripes of stones alternate with a stripe of dark ones. In addition, the building of the Church of St. Panteleimon is decorated with decorative columns, colored vestibules and stained glass windows. The stone support of an elegant metal fence is crowned with bas-reliefs made in the form of lion's heads.

In the 60s of the twentieth century. the building of the temple housed a wine tasting room. In 1991 the monastery was returned to the fold of the Church. In 1992 g. the church became operational again. In 2000, the temple underwent a major restoration of the building. The restoration work lasted for four years. Today, in the church of St. Panteleimon, you can see wall paintings and a new iconostasis. The relics of St. Theodore Tyron and St. Panteleimon are kept in the temple.

Despite the fact that the temple is located in the center of the capital, the city noise is almost invisible here.
