The Azimov Mosque of Kazan is a monument of national religious architecture. The mosque was built in 1887-1890 on the site of an old wooden mosque built in 1804. The author of the mosque project is unknown. The architectural forms of the building are national-romantic eclecticism. Funds for the construction were donated by one of the richest merchants, the owner of two factories - M.M. Azimov.

The Azimov mosque is one-story with a minaret, the height of which is 51 meters. This is a mosque - Juma i.e. Friday, cathedral. In it, a collective prayer is performed by the entire Muslim community on Friday noon, called Juma - namaz.

Oriental, Muslim motives were widely used in the interior decoration.

A whole dynasty of clergymen with the surname Abdulgafarov is associated with the Azimov mosque. The founder of the dynasty, Abdulvali Abdulgafarov, served in this mosque as imam - khatib from 1849 to 1888. Then his son, Khisametdin Abdulvalievich Abdulgafarov (1849 - 1923), replaced him in this position.

From 1930 to 1992, the building of the mosque was not used for religious purposes. The building was abandoned for a long time in the center of the industrial zone of the city. In 1989, the building of the mosque was returned to the believers. 1990-1992 the mosque has been reconstructed and restored. The project for the reconstruction of facades and interiors was carried out by the architect R.V. Bilyalov. Nowadays, the Azimov Mosque is one of the best architectural monuments of Kazan.

The mosque is currently used by the Muslim community. On its territory there is a madrasah and a wooden house in which the mullah lives.
