Photo and description

The Temple "Satisfy my sorrows" is named after the icon of the Mother of God, is located in the very center of Saratov and is one of the main attractions of the city.

The church-chapel was consecrated in 1906, before that it was two years of construction under the direction of the architect P.M. Zybin. The proximity to Chernyshevsky Square, Lipki Park and Kirov Avenue is of great interest to city guests.

The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God is a miniature copy of the Moscow Pokrovsky Church located on Red Square. The stone hipped-roof church with twisted heads fits well into the historical center of the city and serves as a decorative accent of the “old Saratov.”

The temple did not function from 1930 to 1990, like many other churches under Soviet rule, and was used as a planetarium. The external facade has not suffered much during this time; the gilded crosses were returned to their original place, and the interior was restored back in 1965. No one ever found out the real reason for the act of the first secretary of the regional committee A.I.Shibaev, who took responsibility for the restoration of the temple in those still far from perestroika years.

In 1990, after restoration and finishing work, an iconostasis was installed in the church in the Old Russian style, a new baptismal font, icons were purchased and a bell tower was built. A parish library (one of the best in the diocese) was created at the church and a Sunday school was opened. After the Sunday evening service, the parishioners hold talks with the rector in the church.

The church is recognized as a cultural heritage site of regional significance.
