National Museum and Art Gallery description and photos - Botswana: Gaborone. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is National Museum and Art Gallery. Photo and descriptionThe National Museum and Art Gallery is located in the capital of Botswana, Gaborone. It is a multidisciplinary institution that includes the National Museum of Fine Arts and the Octagon Gallery, as well as the Botanical Gardens. Samples of the country's traditional crafts and paintings by local artists are exhibited here. The exhibition hall is full of stands with documents and objects that tell about the history of Botswana and its cultural diversity. Unfortunately, it is poorly lit and in need of renovation, but worth a visit. In the two exhibition halls, objects on completely different subjects are often exhibited. Each August, the art gallery hosts an exhibition of traditional baskets, tapestries and handcrafted pottery in all shapes and designs. In 1967, a parliamentary decree was adopted on the establishment of the museum, but it began its activity in 1968. The complex celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2008. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday.
