Photo and description

The military cemetery in Grodno was organized in 1888. Soldiers of different nationalities and different armies found their last refuge here. This land reconciled them forever after death.

There is an Alley of Heroes of the Soviet Union at the cemetery. Modest red ceramic tablets with gilded names and a heroic star, and next to each memorial there is a slender white birch tree. Around a well-groomed green lawn and blue spruces. That's all the glory to the heroes.

Strict concrete square of a mass grave. On the sides there are white marble slabs with the names of soldiers and officers who died during the Great Patriotic War. There are several dozen names.

Nearby is the burial place of Polish soldiers. The military was buried here in 1918-1939. A neat green field with stone Catholic crosses, military neat and modest. This field of death looks strange against the background of peaceful residential buildings.

A cross, and under it is the earth from Katyn. Black marble slab with dozens of names. There are always wreaths and fresh flowers.

The oldest burial place is a chapel over the grave of Major General of the Russian Army, the leader of the nobility of the Grodno district and honorary magistrate of the Grodno district, Alexander Alexandrovich Russau.

Buried here and the Red Army soldiers who took part in the battles for Grodno in September 1939.

German soldiers who died on the battlefields in the First and Second World Wars are also buried in this cemetery.

The cemetery is looked after by both municipal services and volunteers from local and foreign youth patriotic clubs.
