Photo and description

The South Tyrol Museum of Nature, opened in 1997 in Bolzano, invites its visitors to get acquainted with the scientific, cultural and historical aspects of one of the most interesting regions of Europe. It also tells about the origin of the unique mountain ecosystems of South Tyrol and about the inhabitants of its valleys. The permanent exhibition with live animals and an aquarium is complemented by various thematic exhibitions. The museum's own research projects focus on geology, botany and zoology.

In the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Nature, you can take a virtual tour of South Tyrol and see the huge variety of inhabitants of this small, in general, territory. The exhibition introduces visitors to a variety of local ecosystems - from mountain meadows to forests, pastures and river valleys. Here you can also learn about the geological processes that have shaped the unique Tyrolean landscape, as well as about its changes under the influence of human activity.

Every year, the South Tyrol Museum of Nature holds several special thematic exhibitions, which are organized both on their own and with the participation of other cultural and research institutions. The main attention in such exhibitions is paid to the issues of geology, as well as flora and fauna of these places. And, of course, it is here that you can see the most beautiful photographs of nature taken by both local photographers and internationally renowned masters. Currently, the museum has organized an exhibition "Colors of Nature", visiting which you can find out why the sky and water are blue, and what color does a boiled egg become when it is highlighted in blue?

The staff of the South Tyrol Museum of Nature pay special attention to environmental education - for this, a number of interactive educational programs have been developed, which are very popular among local schoolchildren and students.
