The shipwreck museum is located on the territory of the Kyrenia fortress, which once protected the city from invaders. In this small museum, you can see the hull of an old sailing ship, which was discovered by the Americans in 1969 on the seabed near the coast of Kyrenia at a depth of 30 meters. The vessel was in surprisingly good condition despite having been in the water for over two millennia.

The ship was built around the beginning of the 4th century BC. e., at the time of Alexander the Great, and was about 15 meters long. Scientists have concluded that it sank in about 288-262 BC, having sailed for over a hundred years. The ship sank, according to historians, after an attack by pirates, since neither the remains of the crew nor valuable cargo were found on board. All that was found at the site of the shipwreck was a large number of amphorae filled with almonds, various items of daily use, such as cutlery, and millstones that served as ship's ballast.

The 2300-year-old antique ship, which is currently considered the oldest in the world, the shipwreck museum also displays photographs that capture the process of investigating the site of the ship's wreck and shows how it was raised to the surface.

Unfortunately, the museum is sorely lacking funding to ensure proper storage conditions for such valuable exhibits. But despite all its problems, it is very popular among tourists.
