Photo and description

The monument to Taras Bulba in Keleberd was erected for the 200th anniversary of the birth of the famous writer N.V. Gogol. The monument is made in full accordance with one of the plots described in the book - “On a high cape Taras sat down on a stone and began to smoke a pipe and thought ... and next to a faithful horse nibbles grass ...”.

The village of Keleberda is one of the most ancient settlements in Ukraine. It is located not far from the city of Kremenchug, slightly below the course of the Dnieper River, on the left bank. This ancient village has a very rich history. In ancient times, this village was called Geberdeev Horn. Due to its location on a rather high and very rocky promontory of the Dnieper River, it was an ideal place for pagan rituals and sacrifices, and its very first name was undoubtedly associated with the word `` gibideus '' - the meaning of which is `` ritual altar ''. This village got its present name around the 15th century. The village is not only a historical monument, but also a geological one. After all, there are outcrops of ancient granites, which many centuries ago “created the planet Earth”. And during the Great Patriotic War, troops belonging to the Second Ukrainian Front were often transported through the village to the other side of the Dnieper.

The monument to Taras Bulba itself was made of bronze. It was created at the expense of sponsors. The author of this beautiful composition is the People's Artist of Ukraine Volodymyr Chepelik, who at the same time is also the chairman of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
