Photo and description

The Church of the Holy Trinity in the village of Chernavchitsy is a monument of medieval Belarusian architecture. The first temple on this site was built at the time when Chernavchitsy was owned by the Ilyinich family - in the 15th century. The last of the clan, Yuri Ilyinich, had no heirs and bequeathed all his property, together with the Chernavchitsy, to his cousin, the eminent prince Nikolai Krishtof Radziwill Sirotka.

Kikolai Krishtof Radziwill Orphan ordered to build a fortress-temple in Chernavchitsy in 1583 on the site of a dilapidated old temple, apparently wishing to give additional protection to the population. It was a turbulent time, the enemy could be expected from any direction. The temple has pronounced defensive features: massive walls, narrow loopholes, a high bell tower from which you can view the surroundings.

In 1661, by order of the Bishop of Smolensk Jerzy Belazor, the restoration of the ancient temple was carried out. After the completion of the renovation, the church was re-consecrated in the name of the Holy Trinity.

After the Polish national liberation uprising, the Russian authorities decided to close Catholic churches. The Trinity Church in Chernavchitsy in 1867 was transferred to the Orthodox Church and acquired Byzantine features.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Trinity Church was returned to Catholics. During the Nazi occupation, mass executions were carried out near the church, which is reminiscent of the obelisk installed at its walls.

During the Soviet era, the temple did not function. Today it is a functioning Catholic church. After the transfer of the church to believers in 2010, it was reconstructed.
