The zoo was opened in Kingston in 1961. At first it was a purely state-owned enterprise, but due to funding problems, the zoo was given over to the charitable Nature Conservation Center. Here you can see such rare animals as lynx, coati, mongoose, serval, white-tailed deer, flamingo, eared turtle, etc. Parrot shows are often held.
