Photo and Description

Mount Mantalingayan, also known as Mantaling, is located in the southern part of Palawan Island. The top of the mountain is the highest peak of the island - 2100 meters. In addition, Mantaling is part of the Mount Beaufort Ultramafic geological region and is part of the Mantalingayan Ridge National Park, established in 2009. The total area of the protected area is 120.457 hectares.

Until now, on the territory of the mountain and in its vicinity, scientists are finding new species of plants and animals, which speaks of the incredible ecological value of these places. So, in 2007, a new species of extremely rare insectivorous plants was discovered here, named after the mountain - nepentes mantalingayansis. According to the country's leading ecologists, the park must be protected from illegal logging and mining.

Mantalingayan is popular not only among scientists, but also among tourists - the mountain is considered one of the most difficult to climb. The usual route begins in the town of Risal on the southwest coast of Palawan. The ascent takes 3 days, on the way back - 2 more days.

Those who wish can stay at the top for one day to explore the surroundings. It offers stunning views of South Palawan, the South China Sea and the Sulu Sea. The mountain is a real paradise for bird lovers: dozens of different bird species live here, striking with their incredibly picturesque colors. Along the way, you can meet people from the Tau't Bato tribe - "stone people" who call the Mantalingayan "The Mountain of God" and walk along the so-called "Knife's Edge" trail. Tourists also pass Mount Tulanggok, at the top of which you can witness an amazing natural phenomenon - here the air masses brought by the wind from the South China Sea in the west and the Sulu Sea in the east collide, and at night a kind of howl is heard from this.
