The villa is located on the embankment of the Traun River. Lehar lived in the villa for 38 years. After the end of World War II, the composer could not recover from his nightmares and was forced to leave for Switzerland. In 1947, a tragedy occurred in the Lehar family – his wife Sophie died. After her death, Franz returned to his villa in Bad Ischl. In 1948, he died just a year out of his wife. The villa is a three-storey building, made in the shape of a cube, which was built in the classical style. The museum displays musical instruments, personal belongings of a musician and a study. During the tour, you can listen to the works of Lehar. Before his death, Franz Lehar bequeathed the house to the city, but only on the condition that a memorial museum in his honor would be opened there. Nowadays, a music festival is held annually in the villa, as well as in its surrounding areas, at which the best works of the composer are performed.
