Photo and description

Butterfly farm is a picturesque place in the vicinity of a small fishing village in the northwestern part of Penang island. If not everyone goes to the Snake Temple of Penang, then the butterfly farm, with its graceful, light and fluttering creatures, is a real magnet for guests of the island. This small, only eight hectares, but beautifully designed area has ponds with clear water and exotic fish, man-made waterfalls, cozy gazebos. But the main attraction is the variety of butterfly colors. They are not at all afraid of people, they fly nearby, sit on clothes and palms. Raising your hand to your eyes, you can examine the outlandish visitor to the smallest detail.

The farm was discovered by the famous entomologist David Goh in 1986. The scientist was engaged in the preservation and enhancement of some species of butterflies in Penang. A huge aviary with an area of one hectare was built for them on the farm. It is impossible to calculate the exact number of its inhabitants, but the average exceeds five thousand. And their species diversity goes over a hundred. Yellow-winged and Raja Brook are the names of two rare butterflies that are found on the farm.

The farm is, in fact, a tropical garden. In addition to the enclosure with butterflies, other insects are found in it - scorpions, tarantulas, centipedes, etc. And also reptiles and many birds. There are over 120 species in total.

The rock garden is very beautiful, and over 250 species of fruit trees grow in the orchard. West Indian cherries and durian are worth paying attention to. The latter is known for its fruits, the taste of which even experts cannot compare with anything. In this garden, you can taste not only fruits, but also fresh juices from them.

Butterfly farm in Penang has great authority in this field and claims to be the largest in the world. For tourists, this is a place where there is something to see and what to admire.
