Photo and description

After visiting the Patriarch of Moscow Alexy II with the participants of the Stalingrad battle of Mamayev Kurgan in June 1993, the idea of building a temple on the memorial ground arose. The place allocated for the temple is located next to the mass grave of several thousand soldiers, two hundred meters from the Motherland monument.

The foundation stone of the temple was started on May 9, 2002 after the annual (since 1997) procession with the icon of the Mother of God. The funds for the construction of the temple came exclusively from donations from the population, and in 2004, on Pokrov Day, the main dome was installed. In 2005, on May 9, the temple was consecrated and opened to the public.

In 2006, the Cathedral of All Saints received a unique gift in the form of three handmade icons by Astrakhan craftsmen made using ancient technology. The interior of the temple is decorated with golden chandeliers and an iconostasis, painted by the Lithuanian icon painter Vladimir Savelyev.

The white stone temple is 38 meters high and is visible in almost any area of Volgograd. Helmet-shaped domes made of titanium alloy ordered in the Urals symbolize the heroes guarding the Russian land, as if complementing the memorial complex “To the Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad”, bringing a particle of the Orthodox faith to the main height of Russia.

Next to the temple, it is planned to build two belfries, one of which will be the majestic Bell of Peace. In the meantime, the ringing of seven bells, cast in Voronezh, located next to the temple, is heard over the Mamayev Kurgan.
