A golden roof is a building that has a golden bay window. The building itself was built during the reign of Frederick VI and for many centuries was the seat of the Tyrolean princes. By order of Maximilian I, on the day of his marriage to Bianca Maria Sforza of Milan, a golden bay window was completed. This loggia is covered with gilded copper tiles and was intended for observing the events taking place in the city, for example, holidays, tournaments, and so on. The golden bay window was created by the architect Nikolaus Thuring.

The loggia canopy consists of more than 2,500 tiles. The walls of the building are decorated with interesting wall paintings and sandstone reliefs depicting historical events, profiles of emperors, coats of arms of famous families, amazing animals.
