Photo and description

The Church of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir is located in a village called Mikhailov Pogost, which belongs to the Loknyansky district. The village of Mikhailov Pogost is especially rich in all sorts of events that go back to the very depths of centuries and are closely intertwined with the historical development of the Pskov region.

The earliest mentions of the churchyard are reflected in the chronicle sources. There are several beliefs according to which the name of the village originated. One of the legends tells that there was a birch grove not far from the place where the Vladimir Church is now located. Elder Michael lived near the grove, who had a blind daughter, whose mother was replaced by an evil stepmother. Once the daughter of Mikhail was called by her friends into the forest for birch sap. As soon as the girl cut the birch bark, juice splashed into her eyes, and she immediately regained her sight. After such a wonderful event, the girl hung an icon on a tree, to which she came to pray, and her father Mikhail decided to build a wooden church.

According to the clerical records of 1861, there were three churches in Mikhailov Pogost, one of which was called the Assumption , erected in 1392, the second is a side-chapel, consecrated in the name of John the Baptist and erected in 1780, and the third church - in the name of St. Nil Stolbensky, erected in 1844.

The Church of Equal to the Apostles Vladimir was built in In 1862, by order of the landowner Maria Ivanovna Alekseeva, on her personal funds, over the ashes of her husband, who during his lifetime was the titular adviser of Vladimir Grigorievich Alekseev.

The Vladimir temple was built of red brick, which became a true example of the Byzantine or Old Russian style. The church has one altar, consecrated in the name of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Saint Prince Vladimir.

The church is represented by a three-apse, five-domed and equipped with a three-tiered bell tower. In addition to brick, concrete, sandstone and marble were used in the decoration of the temple. The church bell tower had seven bells, the largest of which weighed 103 pounds and 30 pounds. All the bells had explanatory inscriptions on them: "For the glory of the Lord of the Triune God and his slaves Mary, Vladimir and children", "For the glory of the Lord of the Triune, the appendix of the builder of the Church of St. Prince Vladimir in 1862 this bell was cast in the city of St. merchant Mikhail Stukolkin ", "I will raise up my husband as a grateful wife on the ashes" and some others. All church domes were cast in the shape of an onion.

Once upon a time on the south side of the church there was a cemetery, where there were burials of church ministers, as well as rich and noble people. The remains of the ancestors of the famous writer Uspensky Lev Vasilyevich lie in this place. To date, all the tombstones have disappeared.

Church services in the temple were held on Tuesdays, weekly, as well as on all weekends and holidays, from October 8 to Easter. In 1889, the landowner Alekseeva bequeathed an inviolable capital to the Vladimir church, which amounted to ten thousand rubles, and the interest from this sum of money was supposed to be spent on the maintenance, as well as repair and restoration work of the church; in addition, Alekseeva provided for the funds to go to the benefit of the parishioners, as well as a parable for the purpose of conducting divine services.

It is known that in the 40s of the 20th century, the Vladimir Church was closed. After the closure of the temple, a bakery was equipped in its basement. Today, the Church of Equal to the Apostles Vladimir has been restored and is operational.
